What happened in 2011 and pictures!

Here’s a quick synopsis of what has happened in our lives in 2011.

Ministry-wise, we started out the year getting involved in cell groups and beginning to disciple some new believers. We were faithful members of the cell group and helped it grow until it multiplied and we became the leaders of a new cell group at our own house. Praise the Lord that this new cell group also grew and new leaders were raised up so that it has multiplied as well. Long story short: we are now leading and supervising 4 healthy cell groups. Some of these will multiply now in January and the total number will be 7.

Please continue to pray with us that many lives will be saved and well taken care of. Pray also for our disciples that they will continue to grow in intimacy with Christ!

Family-wise, we have a beautiful, healthy baby boy named Noah. He is now 8 months young! We have been able to see both our families this year and many friends, which has been very encouraging. Erin is learning how to speak Portuguese very well! After Noah’s birth, finding time to study the language has been a real challenge, but she gets lots of practice through discipling and counseling numerous women.

Fund-raising-wise, God has blessed us with faithful supporters who truly care about us. We are currently still in need of an additional $450 per month. If God is speaking to you about partnering with us in this area as well, please feel free to hear and obey

Prayer Request

Just a quick update and prayer request. The Wednesday cell group in Messejana that was really struggling a couple months ago, has begun to change and grow. Praise the Lord that He has heard our prayers and is beginning to pour His mercy and grace on this little group. The cell group is located in a small, poor community with a desperate need for Jesus. There are many broken families due especially to drug use.

Last night, Cristina, a mother of three, came to cell group and sat wide eyed during the whole thing listening to people talk about our “Abba Father”, our loving heavenly Father who wants to have a relationship with us. After the cell group, she opened up and shared that her mother recently passed away and her husband has been using drugs. He has been taking all of their family’s money to buy drugs and even selling items from their house when desperate. She began to cry as we shared with her that God has called us to her community for a reason and that He has not forgotten about her and her family.

Please pray with us that God will do a miracle in her life, that she will give her life over to Him, and that her husband will also realize the great need he has for Jesus. Praise the Lord that He is beginning to change this little community; we are so excited to see God at work after months of no growth!!

Dear Friends and Family,
Today was our first day of rain in a long time. It was nice to have a touch of what almost seemed like fall weather. We have had an exciting and challenging last month continuing to catch up on our work here after our trip to the States. Isaiah especially has been busy. He has had the opportunity to lead a Bible study group at a nearby hospital made up of doctors and nurses during their lunch time. He has also been able to pray with patients and family members at the hospital. In addition he has been preaching more than normal this month at one of our church’s satellite campuses.
Two of our cell groups have been growing quickly and will soon be ready to multiply as there are too many people for one group. Please pray that God will show us who the leaders of the new cell groups should be. Our other cell group that takes place in one of the poorer communities of the city has been a challenge. It is located in the middle of a community filled with drug users and alcoholics where being a Christian is not easy. We never know what to expect Wednesday nights! We have recently been really challenging the group to step up and really make a firm decision to follow Jesus with their entire lives and do whatever it takes to reach their community.
Last week we temporarily lost one of the members as she decided she wanted to live “in the world for the time being”. Please continue to pray for this group, that they will grow in intimacy with Christ and desire to share Him with their friends and family.
We are so grateful for the opportunity to be here in Brazil learning how to follow Jesus and make disciples, thank you so much for your support

Back safely from dangerous U.S.A.

Haha well, not really thaaaaat dangerous, but we’re back never-the-less. We were really blessed with a wonderful time in the U.S. praise God. We were able to see so many of our precious family and friends. Here was our itinerary: BRAZIL – Denver – Chicago – Los Angeles – San Diego – Boston – Denver – BRAZIL!!!

Our purpose in going back to the U.S. for 5 weeks was not only to see family and friends, but also to raise some much needed prayer and financial support. It’s amazing how much life changes when you have a baby. Not only has our life changed, but also our budget!! Who knew such a little person could demand so much re-structuring! But we love having a son, love the changes, and welcome the new challenges!

We are now back in full swing in the ministry here in Fortaleza and absolutely loving it. While we were gone, some of our newest disciples and new believers got a little discouraged, but after LOTS of time and prayer with each of them, we are seeing them regain what was lost and grow from the experience, and now they are even stronger in Jesus name.

Please pray that people we are working with and discipling will become strong in the faith and spiritually mature Christians with intimate relationships with Jesus. Pray also for wisdom for us as we deal with complicated situations, financial support, supernatural energy, new strategies for reaching the lost, and of course for Noah.

Dear friends and family, we have had an exciting and eventful 2 months, the best news of course is that we are so excited and grateful to announce that we have a healthy, beautiful 2 month old son. Noah was born around 6 am May 9th, weighing 7 lb 10 oz and 19.7 inches. He was breech for the last 2 months of pregnancy and we were praying that he would turn so Erin wouldn’t have to have a c-section but he didn’t. We found out as he was being born that the umbilical cord was wrapped 2 times around his neck so God was protecting him by allowing Erin to have a c-section, praise the Lord! We were in and out of the hospital in 24 hours!

The entire birth process was amazing, we have loved being parents so far and enjoyed having my (Erin’s) mom and brother here to help. Recovery from the c-section was fairly quick and painless and Noah is a healthy boy, nursing a bunch and gaining weight. A few weeks after Noah was born we moved into another house (we were living with another couple and Isaiah’s cousin previously) and have mostly settled in now. We have a guest room just waiting for visitors!

We also had the amazing joy of being able to baptize 6 of our disciples last month. It was a beautiful day to be a part of as they declared their faith and new life in Jesus. On top of that, our cell group grew to the point that it was too big to meet all together and multiplied into 2 different groups. We are so excited to see how God is working, bringing more people to hear his word and drawing us all closer to Himself. We are continually being challenged as we disciple new couples and train leaders, we have a lot to learn!

We are waiting on Noah’s American passport to arrive before we book our tickets to go back to the states but are hoping to be travelling around California, Colorado and possibly a couple other states during August and September. We are hoping to see as many people as possible, please let us know if it will work to meet with you during that time! We hope you are having a great summer. Sending love from Fortaleza,

Neighborhood Festa!!

Click to view slideshow.We have so much to be grateful for in these last 2 months and are anxiously awaiting the arrival of Noah as we write this post…any day now! The highlight of April was a neighborhood “festa” or party. Our cell group, along with some other Brazilians from a local church came to our house armed with food, balloons and hearts open to whatever God had in mind. We prayed together and then went out into the community (we live right next to a pretty poor but fairly safe neighborhood) inviting people over for food, prayer and testimonies. We were so excited to see at least 40 adults and kids come for a night that ended up changing most of our lives. It was beautiful to see our cell group reaching out and loving the people that came. Many were able to share the Gospel and their own testimonies. We know at least 4 teenage girls accepted Christ and many said they were looking forward to coming to cell group the upcoming Thursday (tomorrow). One of Isaiah’s newest disciples, Branco, shared his testimony of how God has completely changed his life in the last few months as the crowd of people listened intently. After everybody had gone home, our cell group stayed around to debrief and nobody wanted to stop sharing testimonies of how they had seen God work and how He had opened their eyes to a new world of reaching out and loving people. We went to bed that night so grateful and once again amazed at how much fun it is to watch God at work.

We have been so blessed to see the lives of our disciples being changed and touched by God in front of our eyes. One man who became a Christian a few months ago told us last week that he thinks God is calling him to missions and has recently been having vivid dreams about his future. Another who rededicated her life to Christ 5 months ago has begun to pray for people on the street for healing and is hoping to go to Bible school to get training for full time missions. We have been blessed with disciples who are hungry and passionate to learn more about Christ and become more like Him.

Personally we are so excited for Noah to be born, his offical due date is May 2nd so any day now! He’s currently in the breech position and if he doesn’t turn by May 9th, Erin will have a c-section that day so please pray that he turns head down! We are excited to have Erin’s mom and brother come in a couple weeks to help out with the little one. Thank you so much for your prayers and support, we are so privileged to be able to live and work here in Brazil because of you!

Aahhhh, so much is happening and it’s so exciting to be a part of it all and be used by God to do what we can and watch God transform lives. There are so many amazing testimonies of couples that were ready to separate and be done with the world and each other, but God is bigger than all of it and has completely changed and restored so many families who now are totally in love with each other and have made their family a priority!

So many testimonies of people who were absolutely ruined by drugs, alcohol, and prostitution, but, again, God is bigger and has a plan for these people and has turned their lives around to be more than conquerors in Christ!!

Prayer requests:
–Wisdom and supernatural energy as we lead Bible studies, cell groups, pray with and give advice to new converts under our care
–Complete fluency in the Portuguese language
–Healthy and safe birth for the baby (Noah) due the beginning of May
–Added financial support with the arrival of our baby
–Protection from carjackings and hold ups
–God’s grace on us as we minister at different events

It’s just the beginning!!

Today is a historic day! Today is the official start to an evangelistic ministry that has been on my heart for a very long time.

I firmly believe that we should be a shining light no matter where we are or what we are doing. We should be excited and proud to be a follower of Jesus and proclaim His name in every walk of life, especially in uncommon ways. Today is the launch of “Surf Paz”! Our purpose: to reach surfers in Fortaleza for Christ. We will be meeting every Saturday afternoon at the beach to pray together, surf together, meet new people, and courageously share the Good News to the surf population.

Please pray that many will take on this responsibility and that many will come to know Jesus in a personal way. Also pray for me (Isaiah) as I’ll be preaching tomorrow at both services.
